A 2015 addition to the Scapa range, the Skiren is a handsomely honey'd single malt Scotch whisky which has been distilled in the Scotch whisky industry's only remaining working Lomond Still! It was matured in first fill American oak casks, bringing plenty of vanilla and honey notes to the table. The name comes from the Old Norse word for "glittering bright skies"...
Runny honey and fresh cream. Hints of apple and a touch of anise. Maybe some crushed nuts, too...
Continued honey warmth and richness. Sparks of juicy pear and lemon peel. Touches of oak develop further on, bringing some balancing spice.
Medium length and a bit sweet, with oak lasting too.
This whisky seems to be either strongly liked or disliked. I find it very accessible and easy to drink. For me it has a little more to offer than Aberlour 12 which I was finishing when I opened this. I also like many of the Islay malts so this provides a nice contrast. It has a smooth mouth feel and for me the finish is pleasant, it might be termed a ‘session’ whisky! For what it’s worth the Orcadians we met while visiting all preferred Scapa to Highland Park.
Not as good as the Scapa 16 yr old (no longer available) but very nice all the same. It is certainly one of my staple single malt whiskys.
Great nose and balance of flavours. Not sweet at all. Good first impression but lacks finish and doesn’t impress
Beautiful. Fell in love with first dram. Strong rare honey throughout, with a definable and veritable quality oak and citrus-hinted finish.
I try lot of whisky. I pove soft, seeet shisky. Finaly found the perfect one, and this is the scapa skiren. After some bottle bought the 16 y, and that was 2 times more taste more. But for me the skiren is very good one. 1 negative thing the price, the bottle have more the value around je €40 max I THINK.
