A 2015 addition to the Scapa range, the Skiren is a handsomely honey'd single malt Scotch whisky which has been distilled in the Scotch whisky industry's only remaining working Lomond Still! It was matured in first fill American oak casks, bringing plenty of vanilla and honey notes to the table. The name comes from the Old Norse word for "glittering bright skies"...
Runny honey and fresh cream. Hints of apple and a touch of anise. Maybe some crushed nuts, too...
Continued honey warmth and richness. Sparks of juicy pear and lemon peel. Touches of oak develop further on, bringing some balancing spice.
Medium length and a bit sweet, with oak lasting too.
Very sweet at first with a taste of flowers but then leaves a taste of burnt plastic in the mouth
Thin and watery with shape and bitter aftertaste. Tried the Skiren NAS and the 16 year old and it got worse with ages. Part of the Chivas family and frankly speaking I’d rather drink the blended offering. I would entertain if it was £25. Overpriced and disappointing
Enjoyed a bottle light fresh and easy on the palate A wonderful Father’s Day present
Nose: Smell the roar of the sea. Palate: Brine thrashing through what appears to be sweet peat, but I feel is pears. After: As the waves of sweet brine recede, you wallow in the mists of remarkable phenolic subtlety.
Fresh and clear. Among my favourites, but slightly overpriced. I enjoyed the visit at the distillery.
