Scallywag

Big Peat's gone and got himself a trusty sidekick in the shape of a dapper Fox Terrier wearing a monocle! Scallywag from Douglas Laing is a vatted malt made from Speyside whiskies, including Mortlach, Macallan and Glenrothes. Many of the whiskies used in the small batch release come from Spanish sherry butts, giving Scallywag a fab sweetness that's balanced by some "mischievous" bourbon cask whisky also in the blend.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Sweetness jumps up like an excited puppy. Icing sugar, sultanas and candied ginger. A few hints of grain here and there, but sweetness steals the show.

Palate The sweetness surprisingly retreats, revealing nutmeg and cereal. Vanilla comes in near the end. Cinnamon too, giving it a prickle of spice.

Finish A pinch of oak spice joins the vanilla and sherry for the finish.

Overall Incredibly pleasant, the Scallywag is an absolute treat in every sense.

Reviews for Scallywag
A pedigree not a scallywag
We had my wife's sister and partner visiting and it was this out of my selection that got clobbered.
It meant that my Secret Distillery survived

A scotch that will win over scotch haters
I have never liked a scotch before. I just buy it for friends and guests. But, the lovely smell of Scallywag urged me to try it. Unlike whisky I don't drink neat spirits. I paired this with Barrel Smoked Cola from Artisan drinks. What I tasted was the most luxurious version of any bourbon and cola I have ever enjoyed. Scallywag does not have any peaty smokiness. It is full of well balanced sweeter notes that taste closer to an expensive bourbon to me. I'm about to buy another bottle - not just for guests.

Warm and comforting like my favourite slippers
Lovely blended malt. Initial scent of vanilla gives way to a richer, warming flavour that deepens as it lingers. An easy to drink malt, very moreish. warm and comforting

Very good and well worth buying a bottle
Smooth and interesting. My son loves Speyside and I too agree this is very good nice sweetish and caramel type flavours and very moorish. Excellent at this price point.

top dog this
A lot of sweetness breaks into nutty corn flakes with vanilla and cream. lots of spice as it goes over to a nice sherried finish, but still leaving that sweetness in mouth.
incredibly adictive once mouth gets used to it.
top dog.
