Swiss single malt whisky here from Brauerei Locher's Säntis Malt range! This is an enjoyably peaty expression which is allowed to mature in old oak beer casks, helping to balance the rich smokiness. The Locher family began producing whisky in 1999, after a ban on distilling spirits from grain was lifted, though the family had owned the brewery since the 1800s.

This is a wonderful whisky. There is nothing else that comes close to these flavours. A truly unique whisky!
Had a taste at an event a few years ago and I could get it out of my head. There is something special about this one. If you're a whisky lover and you haven't tasted it yet, you're really missing out! There are other excellent smokey whiskies out there, but this is not smokey, this is barbeque!
As a Swiss whisky drinker, i had to try this particular creation from Santis Malt. On the nose, it is already very special, with notes of burned wood, barbecue, old meat, industrial oil/ painting... On the palate, first caramel, then a strong meat and bonfire Smoke, with lots of spiceness and again, this kind of chemical painting stuff for wood. Final is Strong and Smoky, quiet long, with soot and burnt meet. Not like the usual scotch, different but enjoyable.
