While their Bourbon, Rye and Wheat expressions are all made with 100% corn, 100% rye and 100% wheat (respectively), the folks at the Reservoir distillery are also rather accomplished at blending these spirits into fine tipples, too. This is their Hunter & Scott Bourbon, made with a combination of grains - not just one!
Melted chocolate, peach, pistachio ice cream and honeysuckle.
A slight vegetal hint as it opens, before raisin, caramel and fried banana notes take control.
Milky coffee, cinnamon and menthol.
Maybe some of the 2019 batches weren't quite as good but anything recent has been quality, its my go to Old Fashioned Bourbon alongside Eagle Rare.
People seem to have very odd tastes. This is one of my favourite bourbons to date.
Best old fashioned I've ever made. The other reviewers have lost their minds.
I recently bought this at the NH State Liquor Store. Seemed like a must add because my name is Scott and my sons is Hunter. I'm a mid tier bourbon drinker - Makers, Bulleit, 4 Roses, Wild Turkey, etc. Not too sophisticated. I have to say this is the worst liquor I have ever bought. I cannot get it down. This is not a money issue... it would over priced at $2 / bottle. It's gross. I would suggest using it on rags to clean the mower or similar pursuits. I paid approx $40 to have our names on a bottle. :(
I’m always on the search for “new” spirits, whenever I go shopping. I found this in a local liquor store and asked the clerk had they ever tried it. They both said it was good and a really smooth bourbon. So I bought it. At first sip, I found it to be quite odd on my palate. I couldn’t quite place the flavor. It’s got a bourbon note, but it’s also got this chemical ... almost medicinal taste that I don’t like, nor can’t really explain. From front to back. I’ve tried it “neat”, on the rocks, with a little water, and in a mixed drink or 3 (it’s slightly better in mixed drinks, however) I can’t get rid of the chemical taste. No matter how much I mix it with. It’s what I’d imagine paint thinner would taste like if someone put it in a shot glass. I HATE wasting money, so I may finish it, but I can say with confidence, that I’m never buying Hunter and Scott again, when it’s sooo many better options in the same price range.
