Redbreast 21 Year Old Bottling Note

Redbreast is a rich, spicy single pot still Irish whiskey matured exclusively in first-fill Sherry and bourbon casks, and this fantastic 21 year old is no exception. A masterpiece of cask selection and blending, we absolutely love this older expression with its notes of tropical fruit, menthol and a touch of leather alongside all that mouth-filling goodness you find right across the range. Hats off to Billy Leighton and all those at Midleton!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Tropical pineapple (!) and crushed peanuts specifically, a bit like the combo you get on the outside of those soft cheese rings. Rich, rounded, spicy – prunes, quinces, a little deeply caramelised apple.

Palate: Mouth-filling and reassuring. A little menthol alongside the expected spiciness and some leather. On the tail there’s a touch of nectarine.

Finish: A little tangy fruit gives way to sweet and savoury barley notes.

Overall: Tremendous! Intricate and still full of life even though there’s a good proportion of whiskey older than 21 years old in there. Thoroughly enjoyable and one of the very best Irish whiskeys we've ever had the pleasure of tasting.

Ruined My Life

Everything else now taste just mehh...

Top 5 ever

Absolutely one of the best whiskeys for the money. The ending is amazing and can last 30 seconds per sip. Buy a bottle or split one with a good buddy.

Premium Taste, Premium Price!

They don't come much better than this! Absolutely superb but it does come with a hefty price tag. Redbreast 15 is less than half the price and isn't too far off this in truth, however the 21 will always be the better bigger brother.

RedBreast 21 or 15 are fantastic

I’ve recently purchased Middleton Very rare, Barry Crockett, and all the Redbreasts. I’d have to say that my favorites are the RB 15 or the RB 21. Given that that RB 21 is 3.5x the price of the RB 15 in my town (Dallas, TX), I’d have to go for RB15 as the best. If money is no object, then maybe the RB 21, but really, the 15 is fantastic. I’d also recommend the 12 Cask Strength which when watered (or iced) down is truly a bargain. Hilarious bad review below on the 21... I love MoM reviews and love reading from fellow whiskey lovers. Very sorry that the lawyers at MoM say no shipping to TX, but we have our ways (he he).

One of the best - EVER

this is among the best whiskies, that are relatively widely available, ever made. and i'm a peat-smoke fan.
ignore the one bad review here - probably bad bottle, or the chap knows little about good whisky.

Favourite Irish Whiskey

I've long been a fan of the 12 year. Treated myself to a bottle of this and it is definitely my favourite whiskey. It's so incredibly smooth even my non-whiskey drinking friends could appreciate it.

Lol at the troll below saying get Arran 10 instead of a 21 year old Irish whiskey. Some eegits in the world of whisky. Redbreast 21 is not only the finest Irish whiskey (slightly better than Barry Crockett), but one of the finest whiskies in the world.

I have not tasted better

Best of the best!

This whisky is amazing! It has a special taste that you can’t find in any other whisky and it is so smooth and tasty. It is quite expensive, but in my opinion it is worth every penny!

Too good for Irish coffee but oinly just

Fortunately I only received this as a gift
V. disappointing. sharp for a 21 yo, any character destroyed by triple distillation. Save your money and get something like The Arran 10 - a quarter the price with twice the taste.

Top stuff

Very smooth and full of flavor. Notes of sherry, dried fruit, tropical fruit, spices, caramel, vanilla, alongside a nutty and slightly smoky finish like a single malt.

Why does Irish Whiskey taste so good?

I am not a great scribe

Amazing whisky. Fantastic!!!

I have been trying the 15yo & 12CS most of the time. Picked up an LMDW 25yo and never opened it having decided to open it for a special occasion. However, recently I picked a bottle of 21yo to drink. It's a wonderful wonderful whisky.
Nose: Mango/Pineapple tropical fruits. Hint of sherry. Fruity.
Palate: Full. Creamy. Sherry influence. Fruity. Spicy. Complex and layered. Vintage feel of the 21 yr is very ominious. Silky. Velvetty.
Finish: Fruity & spicy but definitely the barley/sugar spots in the end. Long. Mouth watering.
A stunning whisky !!!! Remarkable. Great whiskky

One of the best by far

Quite possibly the best I've had. For the price... No doubt. I will never pass on a bottle.

Redbreast 21 - WOW!

A nose full (I started salivating over the nose) and a mouth full!

So complex, and the first sip was overwhelming - a spicy resolution ending in...cinnamon?

That's what I tasted.

Redbreast 21

Probably the finest Whisk(e)y in the world!

7th March 2016

Deep and complex

Nose: White pepper, orange peel, hints of floral, intense, but not harsh

Palate: A robust and smooth experience that takes a second to build. The front is delicate with floral notes, followed by a building sweetness dominated by apricot. Earth tones of tobacco and flint play a supporting role. The middle builds to a nice peak that fills the mouth and throat and starts to transition to a white peach finish.

Finish: The finish is wonderful and long. Sweet peach fades slowly, but peach and apricot are the last flavors for me. There is a slight medicinal tone in the finish, but it is a nice counterpoint to the sweet fruit.

Overall: It is bright and complex. I like experiencing the fruit notes that feel shifted from the normal port and sherry wood finishes. This is a different profile, but on par with any scotch whisky that I have had. I also like that it was bottled at 46%.

Very strong orange pie apple honey flavour. Not overly sweet. Very smooth. Short finish.
