Following on their their phenomenal 40 year old release a little while back, the Old Pulteney distillery in Wick have produced another stunningly well-aged single malt. The limited edition 35 year old was matured in American ex-bourbon and Spanish ex-Sherry casks, selected specially for this release by Old Pulteney distillery manager Malcolm Waring, and bottled with no chill-filtration at 42.5% ABV. It comes presented in a wooden case featuring a porthole - a reference to Old Pulteney's close relationship with all things nautical.
Nose: Thick, juicy slices of fruit cake, with cocoa and toffee sauce drizzled on top. Clementine segments and vanilla pods.
Palate: More citrus notes, with honey-nut cereals and plump raisins. Sherried spices, old leather and a waft of sea-breeze.
Finish: Long and rich with plenty of raisins along the way.
Overall: A shipshape dram with masses of character. Lovely work as ever from Old Pulteney.

Every category of whisky by Old Pulteney, whether the 12 year old, the 17, the 21, etc., are the best whisky in their class. They are the true "maritime" whiskey, the nautical, ocean lover whisky. If fate smiles on me, I will visit the distillery. I will make the trek form Malibu to Wick.

Great whiskey! Makes you feel like you're by the sea. The "Tasting Note by the Chaps at Masters of Malt" are spot on, but I don't get the raisins. It has great character. Excellent, Excellent, Excellent ... Well worth the price.
