This 17 year old from the Pulteney distillery was a double gold winner at the 2006 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, matured in Spanish Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez casks.

The nose is clean and fresh with great balance. There is a profusion of fruit, from fruit salad with honeydew melon and pear to dried fruits, sultanas in a hot cross bun, fresh from the oven, a lightly salted butter melts over it with notes of fudge and a hint of something vaguely green. There is a lovely creaminess to the nose with notes of soft whirling smoke and crème fraîche. The palate is quite full and very sweet with sugared citrus peels and toffee. There are some notes of beeswax and honeycomb and fudge rises with malted barley and cereal sweetness. The finish is long with a herbal edge and a chewy oak.
Recently I went to a whisky event and was looking forward to trying the old pulteney range however the 17 was missing, the 21 blew my mind but is still a bit pricey so I decided to order the 17 from mom the knowing that the 17 is on par if not better than the 21 in some peoples opinion. BOY was I glad I got the 17 it's absolutely stunning, balanced with a nice sweetness I get the delicate fruits like more of an apple and green fruit, its got that lovely saltiness they develops and the faintest whisp of smoke just how I like it. I generally enjoy most whisky styles and never re buy the same bottle after all there are soo many to try and enjoy but I will 100% be getting another of these when they're back in stock. I think I got the last because a few days after ordering mine it was out of stock! Oh well its worth the wait.
this was my first OP ever, and boy ...one of the best Single Malt Scotch whiskies i have ever tasted. it starts strong on the nose, bouquet, taste is a whole portfolio of flavours, always interplaying, and the finish long and spicey. an experience from start to finish. i am now really curious about the other expressions. are they as good?!?!
This is aboslutely one of the finest whiskies I ever have had the privilage to drink. It's simply superb. The finish is sublime.
I forgot the rating on the above review. Old Pulteney 17 does have some side effects...
It has an amazing scent of candied pears and lavender. The taste is even better. Imagine a jar of capers. Remove the capers and half of the liquid. Put some sugarbaked pears and a bit of seawater in the jar, along with some star anise. It doesn't sound that great, but goddamn, it makes a great dram. And no color or chill-filtration, makes this a gorgeous drink. I got two bottles stowed away, and I still wish I had more. Very highly recommended. This could be priced at £100, and I would still gladly purchase it.
