This was awarded a Gold Medal at the 2008 International Wine and Spirit Competition. Poit Dhubh (pronounced Potch Goo) is Gaelic for Black Pot, a name for an illicit still. This is a blended malt.
This is special Uisge Beatha to be savoured and not rushed. I managed to obtain a miniature of the 21yo marked as 'Connoisseurs' Gaelic Whisky' just out of curiousity to give it an opportunity to impress me, and so it did. Earthy and slightly sweet on the nose, plenty of sherry/fruit on the palate with a long smooth finish... lovely stuff. Now I have to source a proper bottle which may be considerably more difficult to fulfil. I shall keep trying...
Earthy, slightly sweet with a wonderful finish. To be savored.
I have a bottle I milked for years, and have been looking to replace. I bought it directly from the distillery while on the Isle of Skye. It was the best scotch I've ever had (that includes single malts, blue label, special editions, ... ). Back then they refused to put the USA required health label warning on it, stating it's good for you (which we have proven, it is good for you in moderation). Because of that I could not replace it without flying back. I'm guessing they put the warning on now, since it looks like I can order it here. Which I'll be doing as soon as I get to my wallet.
Love this dram, as has everyone I offered it to. Was voted best whisky in the local whisky club in 2015, easily beating much more well known whiskies. A winner, hope it comes back soon.
