A single pot still release of Powers whiskey. It's matured in a combination of bourbon and oloroso sherry casks, and named after the distillery where it was first made, now sadly closed.
Barley, copper, fresh oak, leather, and juicy fruit.
Very smooth with vanilla, dry spice, chocolate and coffee. There is dark fruit here too, raisins and blackcurrants.
More vanilla and drying copper notes.
A very well balanced whiskey with not a note out of place. Lovely.
Classic single pot still style... thick, rich and delicious. This is one of the great whiskeys of the world... Varying barrels during aging is one the secrets to great Irish whiskeys... and the Oloroso casks which are used by only a handful of distilleries add amazing depth, subtle sweetness and character... Good value at the $50 price point... grab a bottle if you can find it!
Exquisite!
I'm not knowledgeable or experienced in whiskies, and by whisky I mean everything - scotch, rye, bourbon, whisky - so take this with a grain of salt, but to date this is my favorite one. I've had Balvenie Caribbean Cask, which is good, and I've had some upper-end highland (and lowland) scotches when I was in Edinburgh (I'm assuming they were "upper-end" since the price tags were a couple hundred euros per bottle), but of all these John's Lane remains my favorite.
I meant five stars not 4.5. But I was enjoying so much finger slipped
This is a fantastic whiskey. If you like whiskey aged in sherry casks, this is the one. So rich and flavorful w/o the burnt smoky flavor that overpowers some scotches. I don’t know where to start with all the malty dried fruit flavor descriptions. This (with yellow spot close behind) is my favorite Irish whiskey at the moment. And yes, I have every Redbreast (ex the 25) and like them all too well enough. But this one is truly unique. I put it in among my favorite 18 year old to 25 year old favorite single malts — and not one of them is under $100.
