Pike Creek 10 Year Old is a top notch Canadian whisky which gets treated to a finishing period in rum barrels before bottling (previously Pike Creek was finished in Port casks, though the producer changed it to rum barrels at some point in the 2010s). Excellent stuff, and great value-for-money, too.
Honey'd raisins and pecans, with a spicy little kick of herbaceous rye hiding in there.
Old-fashioned cola cubes, cardamom heat, caramel and a clear suggestion of good rum.
Lasting notes of brown sugar and dried oak.

Hi, great article. I got a chance to sample the American release of Pike Creek port finished, and although it is a bit on the light side, I quite enjoyed it. Looking forward to trying their rum release - but sad to read that the port releases are no longer made. It is difficult finding a good and affordable, port-finished bourbon, so this port-finished Canadian whiskey was quite a find. Any others like it? https://distilledsunshine.wordpress.com/2017/06/23/first-blog-post/
Seen this in asda reduced from £28 to £20 pounds so thought I,d give it a go. Usually drink single malts but have been trying more blended whisky for a change and have found some crackers ( cutty sark prohibition being one). This has been finished in rum barrels and personally I think it tastes like a really good rum which is no bad thing. If you fancy trying something different from the norm then I don't think you will be disappointed. I'm having it with a wee bit of ice and really enjoying. Would buy again when my taste buds are looking for something a bit different.
I have had both - rum cask finished and port casks - and I have to say, I absolutely love the Port finished. As stated by another review, almost too smooth, but the port cask imparts some very nice finishing notes ... and though I do not love sweet, I do in this whiskey. I will need to give the rum cask finished another try, but, if you can find the port ones ... get it and try it. You will not be disappointed at all. And if you are, send it to me! I would give it a 4.25-4.5 out of 5.
Was curious.Bought it over similar priced Tullibardine 500 and Jw Green. What a mistake. Rough and no distinct taste. Sorry , not my taste
Not bad at all . Very smooth, almost too smooth. Definitely worth a try
