Single malt whisky from the Penderyn distillery of Wales, which has been fully-matured in ex-bourbon casks. Should make for a great tasting partner with Penderyn's Legend single malt, which is matured in ex-bourbon casks before being finished in ex-Madeira casks. Myth & Legend - get it?

I was bought this as a gift and unfortunately I'm not a fan. It has a strong confected fruit profile that I can't get over - similar to pear drops. It's not a refined drink. Whilst I'm always usually a neat whisk(e)y drinker I find this is better over ice and I'm inclined to experiment mixing with it - a Welsh Old-Fashioned perhaps?
I'm really enjoying this Welsh whisky. An interesting nose (that's perhaps a little sharp) that I might describe as buttered toasted raisin pancakes. (toffee, vanilla, butter and dried fruit). The fruity (think raisins) and toffee flavour shifts to a dry bitterness (a wee bit marmalade-like) with a pleasantly long wood and spice finish. There is no hint of any unpleasant aftertaste. Sometimes using 'light' to describe a whisky implies tasteless or bland. Not so for this. It is tasty but the flavours are friendly and pleasant. This whisky is such terrific value. I've gained less enjoyment from malts nearing twice the price of this. The pale colour suggests no additives and it states on the label it isn't chill-filtered.
