It's the eighth release in Penderyn's Icons of Wales series, and this one has been bestowed the name Hiraeth. It comes from a Welsh word that is said to be rather tough to translate to English, but is similar to 'homesickness', 'nostalgia', and 'longing'. The single malt Welsh whisky itself has been produced using spirit most from the distillery's pot stills installed in 2014, and finished in ex-bourbon casks.
Toffee apple and pear tart, with a little hint of almond pastry underneath.
Still rich in vanilla, with a slow build of cinnamon and peppercorn.
Golden Grahams and milk chocolate.
As a collector of Penderyn I was excited to open and taste this one ,beautiful, vanilla aroma, one of the best they have done.
Right at the pour, you can tell it's a quality whisky. Beautiful consistency and colour. Very nice nose and somewhat unique - I was getting a bit of orange with cinnamon and vanilla. Well-rounded on the palate with complexity of flavours. The balance od sweet and dry is achieved with interplay of fruit and spice. Long, quality finish.
Absolutely the best I have ever tasted... it is making my mouth water, just thinking about it...
