Superb single malt from a secret Speyside distillery. As you might have guessed from the name, Olorosum is a splendidly sherried affair. The 10-year-old single malt was treated to an extremely generous finish in oloroso sherry casks before being bottled up without added colour or chill filtration at a hearty 54.7% ABV. With a smartly waxed top (how did they make it slanted like that?!) and a black and gold label that gives off some rather suave Art Deco vibes, it looks as stunning as it tastes.
Superbly sherried, with burnt sugar, golden syrup, and milk chocolate. Candied pecans and festive chocolate liqueurs follow while drying old oak nestles in the depths.
Big and bold with vanilla fudge and boozy dried fruits opening the way for sweet, nutty malt. Chocolate raisins and Brazil nuts follow, with notes of wood polish and brandy snaps.
A dense finish, with drying oak and aged fruit cake, toasted spices, and minced pies.

From the natural colour and beautiful sweet smell when you pop the cork, this Single Malt doesn’t fail to deliver. Oily and thick, you know you’re getting ready for a taste sensation that doesn’t fail to impress. Like biting into a Toffee apple there’s a mix of sticky sweet and yet fruity apple notes that dance on the tongue. And for the mere pennies MoM are charging it’s a no brainer. A wee drop of water makes this whisky dance. Highly recommend, especially if you love a sweet and oily dram.
At the price, this is one of my go to whiskies when I fancy a simple night cap. Strong Sherry, but delightful and smooth. I'll definitely be buying it again. Especially at this price
This dram looked interesting so go on give it a go. Initially not a fan. but added 5ml water and left it about 30mins. Surprisingly opened up with strong sherry notes and toasted nuts. Christmas cake and pudding all in one with aunties sherry on the side. I will be going back to this one soon.
