    Old Rip Van Winkle

Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve Bourbon 20 Year Old

Incredibly old for a bourbon, this bottling of Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve was aged for 20 years and retains a beautiful sweetness, a perfect digestif whiskey.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Stewed fruits on the nose, sweet spices, oiliness, white chocolate, walnut.

    Palate

Rich, soft and sweet oak with custard. The mouthfeel is like silk, and Preston Van Winkle likens this to a classic Cognac, and we reckon he’s onto something. The maturity, smooth/oily feel of this on the tongue, coupled with musty fruitiness sum up what we love about a decent XO, this is sublime.

    Finish

Good length, with hints of honeycomb, peppery spices and prune.

    Overall

    Heaven!

    Pffft, best bourbon my ass!

Got to try this for free. Lucky I did because I can't see what the hype is about. I preferred Knob Creek, Beam Small Batch & even Makers over this crap. Hell it's just a bourbon at a stupid price! Like buying a cubic zirconia at a diamonds price. Good on Winkle though, if you can find fools with too much money why not take advantage of their stupidity?

    An immense letdown

This, one of the most lauded bourbons I've ever come across (never found a place near me that serves the 23) with a price to match the renown, is as a whisky nothing particularly remarkable. It's not bad and definitely a step up from something basic like Buffalo Trace, but the hype it gets is sheer lunacy.

    Heaven

10 star. Worlds best bourbon by a long shot

    Jack Daniels

Sorry, folks, Jack Daniels is not bourbon, it is a sour mash whiskey and only that, nothing more but, in and of itself..... great1

    Jack Daniels ~ American Whiskey

Jack is 'Tennessee Whiskey' due to the Lincoln County Process - better known as mellowing, which filters out the impurities in the 'high wine' mix. it is this process... and this alone... that doesn't make it bourbon. It meets regulatory requirements for bourbon, however.... the difference is the down proofing between Kentucky Bourbon and Tennesee Whiskey.
