Nose: Among supple woody tannins and ancient oak furniture, there’s soft toffee pennies, buttered bloomer bread and vanilla buttercream. Hints of tart raspberry and roasted banana ice cream develop.
Palate: In a slightly leathery and lightly spiced (it’s more winter spice than oak tannins now) palate there’s lemon sponge cake, crystallised fruits and faintly sharp green apple. Damp malt, a little heather and white stone fruit emerge after time.
Finish: Dried grass and some minerality linger in a delicate and medium-length finish.
Overall: A stellar tipple. There’s so much to enjoy here.
