North British 13 Year Old 2008 Single Cask (Master of Malt)

North British 13yo MoM Bottling Note

The North British distillery produces magnificent grain whisky in its hometown of Edinburgh, and we managed to get hold of a cask for ourselves right here! Not just for ourselves though – we'll share. 312 bottles of this single grain Scotch joined our single-cask collection in 2022, after spending 13 years in a single bourbon barrel.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Buttery sponge, syrup-soaked oats, sawdust, and peppery spice with crisp toasted oak, cereal, and an almost mineral vibrancy.

Palate: Fluffy vanilla souffle is followed quickly by a splash of warming spice as it goes down, soon mellowed by more creamy grain and soft apricot.

Finish: Butterscotch rests beside sweet orange zest with warming notes of brandy butter bringing brilliant balance to rich charred, peppery oak spice.

Flavourite.
Love it. I've been a Grain Whiskey for a good while now and this one is my favourite, so far.

Disappointing.
Smooth, but far, far too sweet. First taste was rather like a dessert wine. The first grain whisky to disappoint me.

This is delicious. I'll have to savour this one and I bought a bottle for my Dad's birthday

Wow!
I took a punt on this as I’ve had bad experiences with grain whiskies before but I was very pleasantly surprised. Very smooth.

A great whisky
First grain whisky I’ve tried and it’s lovely! Really smooth and over 50%. Great value for money.

Something different.
Having never tried grain whisky I didn't know what to expect, but this was a very pleasant surprise.
It's light and creamy, a little sweet, and thoroughly delicious. At 50.3%, and for less than thirty quid, I'm really glad I took a chance.

A very pleasant surprise
My first foray into grain whisky, and it will not be the last. Obviously it isn't the most complex whisky ever, that goes without saying, but I really like it. For the money, this is great value, especially at this strength.

Highly recommended
I like a nice grain Whisky, and this one is one of them. Vanilla cream and Butterscotch and at 50 per cent. I is not to like.

Tried this on a whim, at the price I couldn't go wrong and I didn't.
Surprisingly good, very rounded and a fairly heavy abv.
