One of two whiskies released by Nikka in 2020 celebrating the 100th wedding anniversary of its founder Masataka Taketsuru and Rita Cowan. This expression is a Yoichi single malt which has been allowed a finishing period of six months in casks that previously held apple brandy - a reference to the importance of apples in Nikka's history. The sweetness that the apple brandy casks imparts offers up an intriguing juxtaposition to the peaty notes at the whisky's core, making for a fascinating Japanese single malt.
Rich, deep. First, notes of apples that have just been taken out of the oven. The peatiness then takes over, alternating between dry and oily.
Fine, complex. It is remarkably fruity (candied apple and pear) with a slight peatiness. Mid-palate, aromatic herbs (lemon balm and chervil), lamb's lettuce, and watercress. Walnuts and apples bring home the oily and luscious character.
Long, well-rounded and balanced with notes of liquorice and vanilla, grapefruit and hints of twigs and straw. Dried fruits (almond, hazelnut and date) and toasted bread flavours. The empty glass is a subtle blend of ripe apple, peat and hay.

AMAZING STUFF!
If you can afford it hurry up and get yourself one or two this is amazing!
