Nikka Nine Decades
This astonishing blended whisky from Nikka combines over 50 batches of whisky spanning nine decades from the 1940s(!) to the 2020s, produced at the six Nikka distilleries. Delving into Nikka's heritage and looking to its future, the blend includes whisky from Japan's now closed Nishinomiya distillery and Scotland's Ben Nevis alongside the oldest reserve Japanese malt whisky from Yoichi and Miyagikyo, and new grain whisky from Moji and Satsumatsukasa.
Tasting Note by The Producer
Nose
Chocolaty peat, honey fragrances, medicinal and spicy notes (ginger, cinnamon). A rich apple pie and raisin sweetness with toasty barrel- ageing notes lead into a gentle smokiness and the nostalgic scent of antique furniture. Complex and layered aromas give the impression of standing in the warehouse where the whisky has peacefully slumbered.
Palate
Dark chocolate, apricot, citrus fruit (grapefruit, lemon), peat. Mellow oak with profound depth forms a base, structuring the spicy cinnamon, roasted nuts, and rich dark chocolate aromas. A subtle bitterness from the peat is balanced by sweet apricot jam and maple syrup, while an overall warmth gives the impression of sitting in front of a fireplace.
Finish
Cocoa, coffee, orange. Gentle peat is enveloped by the full body, with sweet and sour notes introducing a pleasant bitterness on a very long finish.
