While most distilleries use their Coffey stills only to make grain whisky, Nikka use the two Coffey stills at their Miyagikyo distillery to create malt whisky too. The Nikka Coffey Malt Whisky was introduced to their selection of expressions in 2014. Plenty rich and flavoursome, it's a wonderful addition to Nikka's fantastic range.
One of my firsts whiskeys. I have always claimed that it’s the one that really got me into whisky. It’s oily and fruity. Rich and nutty. It will always have a place in my heart
At the end of my bottle and I believe this whisky reached the peak of its sweetness. Very delicate and smooth with an interesting complexity. Definitely recommend it if you’re a beginner like myself and are looking for something outside the scotch world.
This is a very strange, medicinal, sweet, nasty whisky. I love Japanese whisky generally but this is an outlier. Unpleasant and cheap tasting.
My second dabble in Japanese whiskey after a bottle of Hakushu from Suntory. I think I preferred the Hakushu but this was a fairly close second.
This one has everything and always makes me smile. Very smooth and rich but a pleasant citrus hit to keep it fresh. Always open along with the Taketsuru
