Description

An American single malt whiskey from the Michigan-based New Holland Brewing Co.! They age this whiskey in heavy-charred American white oak casks for at least three years before bottling it at 45% ABV.

Nose

Grassy malt, fresh vanilla pod and a hint of dark chocolate.

Palate

Quite nutty as it opens. Soft barrel char warmth, with touches of clove alongside.

Finish

Simmering oak-y spices.

As good as, but different of course, than Macallan 12

Simply spectacular. Brought one from the US to my home in Moscow, Russia and invited one of Russia's greatest experts in Scotch whiskeys to taste, alongside some from Balcones (some also fab). But this one was a home run for him. He asked me where I got it, and how soon could I organize imports? One cannot directly compare it to the top Scottish single malts in that the expression is different, but he liked it as much as his favorite Macallan. That was three years ago. Now they are aging one more year since I tasted it and I am sure the new releases are even better. Simply spectacular and opens long after your sip, morphing and releasing ever more mellow flavors on the pallet. Ambrosia.
