This is the third single malt to join the experimental, boundary-pushing Huntress series from Nc'nean, named Orchard Cobbler after one of the team's favourite desserts, due to the whisky's highly fruity flavour profile. Nc'nean operates two different spirit runs each year, one for whisky intended to be released at a younger age, and another for whisky thats set to mature in cask for at least 10 years. Orchard Cobbler is an example of the unique profile that is achieved just after this switchover. During this first week of change, cut points are altered, flooding the spirit with highly fruity compounds that are captured here in this rather fruit-forward dram. It was distilled from 100% organic Scottish barley, matured in a combo of 66% STR red wine casks, 31% bourbon casks, and 3% sherry casks, and bottled at 48.5% ABV.
Delicately fragrant wild berries and currants, with jammy cherries and vanilla bringing suggestions of Bakewell tart, backed up by vibrant garden herbs.
Cooked apples, stewed apricots, and stone fruit pastries, dusted with vanilla, and undertones of peppermint tea.
Ripe fruits linger, with a touch of cinnamon and spice, toffee, oaken vanilla, vinous red fruits, and a touch of green pepper.
