Single Malt
An 18 year old Mortlach, distilled in 1990. The distillery has a penchant for finishing their whisky in interesting casks, and this is no exception. It's finished in Premier Cru Domaine Leroy red wine casks from Vosne-Romanée, a top wine from one of the best growing regions in France.
This is wonderfully oily on the nose, but there are citrus notes here too as well as a caramel sweetness.
Fills the mouth immediately. Lots of spice - nutmeg and clove mainly, with some lemon too. Quite oaky and tannic too.
A long finish with a slightly honeyed note, cut through with spice.
A splendid dram for fans of interesting finishes.
