Mortlach's mighty malt is known for being big, bold, and meaty, but how does it come to be this way? Well, we have the humble worm tub condenser to thank for much of that distinctive character! This old-school bit of kit is rarely seen these days. Fortunately, a handful of Scotch distilleries, including Mortlach, still use one, and the folks at Wormtub Whisky are celebrating them with a limited-edition Single Cask series! This single malt spent a dozen years maturing in a Pedro Ximénez sherry hogshead, yielding a total of 324 cask-strength bottles.
Powerful layers of malt loaf, ripe stone fruits, set honey, and vibrant, juicy barley. Sumptuous notes of condensed milk as it caramelises, poached pears, biltong, and beautiful mineralic worm tub funk.
Dense and mouth-coating, with robust woody spices tamed by golden syrup, candied orange, green apple, and tangy yellow plum. A medley of fermented fruit and drying oak, with candied pineapple and warming peppercorn.
Peppery warmth lingers, drenched in syrupy sweetness. Intense yet balanced, with complexity for days...
