Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Delightfully coastal, with hints of oily barley underneath.

Palate: The coastal theme continues on the palate, with a touch of bonfires too.

Finish: Vanilla and smoke. Some fresh fruit sweetness.

Big Strand Reviews

It's a good buy!

First time for me. Usually Linkwood 15 yo is my favourite tipple. This was a lovely surprise.
I just let it dissolve in my mouth the way my mentor told me. Really smokey and like Islay whisky sea flavours too.

In my top 5

I first tried the on its first release at a whiskey festival; it is one of my top 5 whiskeys but it is sad that it has been sold out for months now; can't wait for its return

Fantastic!,

Lovely but I can not get my hands on a bottle at the moment. It has been so long I have nearly forgotten how good it is

My absolute favorite

I found this as a taster at the Scotch Whiskey Museum when visiting in 2017. Since then, it’s become my absolute favorite. If you appreciate peat, smoke and sea salt, this is the one for you. Since I can’t find this in the US, I was asking clients to bring bottles back for me. I don’t open one until I have a back up. For the price and the tasting notes and nose? It cannot be beat.

Lovely flavour time and time again

Found big strand at a game fair, loved it, smooth, slightly peaty taste but i like that, the taste lingers on the tongue
Iv had 4 bottles now and ready for another, its become a foundation scotch in my collection of malts

Sweet peat!

Just had a Glenfairn glass of this in the Clachan Inn, Drymen. Lovely dram with a fine balance of fruitiness and smoke. Has the sweetness associated with Caol ila.

Very different, a bit niche

Interesting malt. It's a grower but needs to be drunk carefully and slowly to appreciate the flavours. The nose is very light, sweet and deceptive.Drink it quickly and you miss the peaty smokiness as the sharpness on the tip of your tongue can be overpowering. I'm still undecided on this one but would rather spend my money on Laphroaig or Talisker Dark Storm. Luckily my wife bought it for me!

Chain smoker at a friendly price

Exactly what was expected. Heavy smokey flavour that whiskies from Islay are known for, at surprisingly low cost. Definitelly a purchase I haven't regreted

Try it if your a whisky fan

Excellent value for a Islay malt some of the reviewers should stick to supermarkets cheap own brands. All that is good in a west coast malt
