Nikka released a pair of whiskies in 2020 to celebrate the 100th wedding anniversary of the company's founder Masataka Taketsuru and Rita Cowan. This right here is one of them - a Miyagikyo single malt which has been finished in casks that previously held apple brandy! This intriguing cask finish is a reference to the importance of apples in Nikka's history, as the company started producing apple juice while its first whiskies were maturing.
Rounded with notes of apple, vanilla, honey, sage and verbena. This then evolves in notes of stewed or baked apples, woodiness and spicy notes of ginger and cinnamon.
Creamy and lively with freshness. Aromas of pineapple, lychee, and kiwi alongside notes of acacia honey.
Long, alluring. With just a hint of salt, herbal tea, with rosemary, mint, and linden tree flowers adding a floral dimension overall. The empty glass evokes notes of toasted wood such as oak, cypress and pine.
