MB Roland Bourbon (54.9%)

From MB Roland comes a Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey, which has been bottled up at 54.9% ABV. MB Roland is a grain to glass distillery, this this expression has been made using local white corn, alongside rye and malted barley. Enjoyably chocolatey stuff, with layers of buttery corn and toasted spices bringing complexity and richness.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Maltesers and honeycomb, with citrus curd and wild berries alongside spicy oak.

Palate Toasted corn and buttered popcorn lead the way, with more chocolate supported by melted brown sugar and fried banana.

Finish Dry, spicy oak and buttery caramel.

A good Bourbon
Really good stuff, pour over ice & a little splash brings out the flavour perfectly. Will definitely buy again.

Heavy Hitter
Strong, high proof, complex and delicious Bourbon. Nice development and lots of delicate flavours, but overtop of a heavy spice and brown sugar bass note. Lots of fruit notes and Christmas-cake-esque flavours, almost sherry and rum notes at times. This mixes well whether you want an old fashioned or a paper plane, but in a Glencairn or a Copita neat it massively benefits from a healthy dose of water to let it mellow out and open up. There’s always room for improvement, but this is solidly good.

Not great
Strong oak finish. Very harsh on the pallet and throat. No sweetness or vanilla. Not worth the money. Its ok with a mixer but definitely not a sipper! Won't buy again

Not worth the price.
Not worth the money.
Really not worth £60. At best it matches a £20 basic Bourbon like Benchmark. It's pretty darn rough on the way down, maybe a hint of plum in the taste, but certainly not £60+ Bourbon.

Very oakey
Sweet to start with but then a very long extremely oaky finish. Not like any Bourbon i have tried. It's the finish that puts me off. Worth a try definitely not to everyones taste. Won't get this again.
