Heavily Peated 22 Year Old 2004 (Master of Malt)
We bottled up this hearty Highlander for our own Master of Malt collection. Distilled in 2004, this heavily peated single malt spent a generous 22 years maturing, beginning in refill casks, and finishing in Pedro Ximénez sherry hogsheads for a splendid medley of dense, robust peat smoke, honeyed stone fruit sweetness, and waxy, nutty malt. A release of 321 bottles.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose
Fruity notes of cranberry and thick, ashy smoke open the way for hints of smoked salami, snuffed candle, and burnt chocolate cake. Rich and robust, balancing heavy peat and sticky PX sweetness.
Palate
Dense peat smoke and brown sugar sweetness collide, with layers of smoked honey, barbecued stone fruit, and juicy raisins. Salted peanuts arrive in time, with creamy milk chocolate in tow.
Finish
Earthy, herbaceous peat lingers alongside mixed candied, smoked nuts, maple syrup, cocoa, a touch of brine, and sweet ginger loaf.
