The first line extension to the Maker's Mark range since the '50s, Maker's 46 is essentially the standard wheated expression with added spice. This bourbon wasn't intended to compete with the core expression, instead it's a cousin to it, something different for those that enjoy the extra dimension provided by inserting seared French oak staves into the barrels (stave profile number 46 - thus the name). It's utterly stunning.
Toffee sweetness and the saw dust from freshly cut wood. Has a very toasty aroma, with sweet spices and deep, thick caramel.
Creamy and very soft. Then it opens up, in fact it explodes with spiciness which concentrates on the tip of the tongue. It’s on nutmeg, mulled wine spices, allspice, cinnamon. Also a hint of hot apple juice.
A natural progression of the palate with the sweet spices and it concentrates on the tongue – this may be one of the few times you’ll notice a concentration of sweetness like this from a bourbon. It also becomes grassy after a minute or so.
A beautiful bourbon with a real depth of spice, warmth, and wood.
I find that I prefer the standard Maker's to this premium offering. Don't get me wrong, this is very good. Just a personal taste.
No more bourbon tasting for me this is perfection best I have EVER tasted.Its so good I do not know how to describe it.
this is an excellent whiskey. Sometimes can be found at Costco, at least California ones, for as low as 26 bucks. I prefer Buffalo trace and othe bourbons over standard Makers Mark but Makers 46 is truly outstanding. Rich maple syrup buttery goodness.
The only downfall: is it really sold out??!!??!?
