The MacNair's Lum Reek range comes to us from the GlenAllachie Distillers Company, created by the brilliant Billy Walker and his team. These blended malts combine whiskies from Speyside and Islay – both peated and unpeated malts working together for a complex, rewarding flavour profile. The name 'Lum Reek' comes from a traditional Scottish toast, "Lang may yer lum reek". Reckon you'd best say that when enjoying a glass of this. It's only fair. This is the 12 year old expression, drawn from a combo of red wine, Pedro Ximénez, and bourbon casks.
Roasted coffee, rich caramel, waves of coastal smoke.

Got this as part of a taster set. What a delight. Such magnificent balance and character.
Had the pleasure of receiving this as a gift shortly before Christmas and I feel a smile creep across my face whenever I have a wee nip (eaking the bottle out to ensure I've always got some to enjoy). Suitably smoky without being too overpowering and the flavours provided by the cask finishing add a lovely deep caramelised fruit tone to it (think apple tart tatin that's still bubbling away after being lifted out the oven). Glorious stuff.
The rise of a fine whiskey to Billy Walker fame a fragrant scent and soft throat, and then I love the smokey pit feeling.
