Malström, from the Mackmyra Moments range, is a Swedish single malt which has been matured in a combination of casks chosen by Master Blender Angela D’Orazio, including some tiny 30-litre casks!
A rush of cinnamon passes initially, before juicy oranges and limes bring sweetness to the table.
More citrus, though this soon is paired with caramel and double cream. Hints of wood smoke start to pick up pace later on.

Definitely worth paying for. To me this is one of those I’ll go for, when it’s been one of those days. It youthful but not harsh packs a punch of fruit one the nose, but Wow then you get an strong astringency on the nose not in a bad way, but phew.awakening. On the palate you get Rich fruitcake really soft moreish hmm.. very enjoyable, with a nice longer lingering sweet rich butteriness. Swedish??? Nice one Sweden. Great job done.
The use of small, custom casks appears to accelerate the maturation of whiskys in the Moment series, of which I've had a few -- and this one is both the entry level and epitome. Blame the Swedish government for the high price, but the whisky is outstanding. Juicy caramel, oak, toffee, spicy vanilla spilling over... truly overflowing with barrel-induced flavors. The underlying malt has a great if subtle fruitiness that marries so well with the wood. A storm that calms when sipped.
Its good quality liquor, but has a curious sweet-herbal flavor that reminds me of Jager. If you like Jager, you might love this. It wasn't for me.
