Mackmyra's core expression is a light Swedish whisky matured primarily in first fill bourbon barrels but also includes whisky aged in Sherry and Swedish oak casks too as well as some smokier malt, which all adds to the complexity.
Fresh, delicate fruit aromas with vanilla pods. Pine nuts, pine needles, raspberry bushes and mixed peels. Ryvita and Sesame Snaps.
Vanilla cream, custard even and more fruit. Red berries, boiled sweets and rich, warming bourbon.
Spicy oak and apple pie whilst remaining light and nimble.
Tremendous easy-drinking single malt whisky from Sweden.
I really enjoyed this one! Perfect blend of sharpness and fruit.
There must be something wrong with my taste buds, because I obviously can't taste what the 5-star-reviewers were tasting. Very flat, nothing that stands out. Yes, you cannot expect the same here as you would from e. g. a Scotch or Bourbon. But for that price, I would expect at least something interesting and flavorful. Rather disappointing.
I just finished the last sips of an original bottle, 1st Edition. Numbered bottle. What a joy. An absolutely delightful whisky. This is not scotch or Irish whiskey. It's in a class by itself. Light, refreshing, very easy on the tongue.
I want more!!!
Day 5 in the Whiskey Advent Calendar.. 2016 Sweden scores!! A nice mellow whisky. I guess because it doesn't PUNCH you in the face with an abundance of peat and wood, most think it's bad? To me it reminds me of a nice Irish whisky?! A little oak, vanilla, a tiny bit of leather and caramel. Not bad, but good! Definitely not horrible!? If I were in Sweden, I would drink it!
