A gorgeous sherried Macduff single malt, bottled for the aptly-named Xtra Old Particular series by Douglas Laing. Distilled in February 1990, the Highland whisky rested in a single sherry butt for three decades, until 146 cask strength bottles were yielded from the cask in April 2020. Heaps of juicy, jammy red fruit and baking spices in here.
The nose is wonderfully spiced with nutmeg developing to toffee and brown sugar.
The palate reveals ripe, juicy plums, treacle with allspice and sweet malt.
The finish lingers long - anticipate mocha, raspberry conserve and cinnamon.
