Wonderfully well-aged single malt from one of Speyside's most famous distilleries - Macallan! This is a 28 year old expression from Macallan, which has been independently bottled by That Boutique-y Whisky Company. As ever, the handsome giant with the magnifying glass is having a good ol' nosey at Macallan's curiously small stills (or it's just a regularly-sized man and those stills are absolutely tiny!) on the label.
Batch 14 is a release of 114 bottles.
‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles single malts, single grains and bourbons from a variety of renowned distilleries as well as producing award-winning blended malts and blends. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic novel-style labels.
Past an initial flurry of dusty oak and leather there’s ripe peaches, red apples and a refined malt note. Thick-cut marmalade smeared on fluffy white bloomer bread, barley sugar and salted caramel develop among supple wood tannins and just a flash of red chilli heat.
Vanilla and dark honey drench more juicy apples and slightly astringent oak. Drying spice, ginger and clove mostly, rich earth and blackberry compote notes develop. A lick of liquorice is present underneath.
Long and gentle. Subtle oak spice prickles through delicate golden barley sweetness.
This older-style Macallan is every bit as delicious as you would imagine.
