This one is a 26 year old expression, with a much more pronounced bourbon-cask-influenced flavour profile than the Sherry bombs that have previously been released by the Boutique-y bunch. That Boutique-y Whisky Company bottles limited edition whiskies from a variety of renowned distilleries as well as producing award-winning blends, all adorned with cultish graphic novel-style labels. The brand won Spirits Bottler of the Year at the 2023 Spirits Business Awards, and Blender of the Year went to Sam Simmons, captain of the Boutique-y clan who oversees every one of these releases.
A thick, sweet and resinous opening begins with fresh apple blossom, pink grapefruit and golden syrup. A defined floral note perfumes decadent vanilla cream and aromatic ginger spice, while varnished oak and warm butterscotch fill out the backdrop.
A medium-bodied and firm palate brings sour apple sweets, dry oak spices and barley sugar. A litter of complex notes breathe through rancio, including thyme honey, chocolate orange, green tea and hot copper pans. A little sour cherry and beaten leather lace the vanilla-coated backdrop.
A juicy finish with good length and a solid oaked note.
Truly complex, refined and delicious, this beauty is reminiscent of an ‘old-style’ Macallan - for all the right reasons.
