Mac-Talla Mara Bottling Note

Mac-Talla Mara is an Islay single malt which is focussed on the coastal deliciousness that you often find in whiskies from the famous Hebridean island. Though we don't know which distillery on Islay this whisky came from, we do know that it was drawn from American oak casks, and bottled at cask strength by the Morrison family, which has long been involved with the world of Scotch whisky.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Salted lemons, caraway, toasted teacakes with melted butter, seaweed.

Palate: Cask char and burnt ends, with a touch of honey. Still packed with sea breeze and maritime malt notes.

Finish: Petrichor, sea salt, a touch of smoky bacon.

Reviews for Mac-Talla Mara
Hard act to follow
Probably the most perfect dram I've tasted this year... it evolves in the glass over time and with the addition of water and contrary one review, has a lovely long lingering delicate finish

My favourite from Mac-Talla range
I had the chance to taste the full range at the Whisky Fringe Festival and Mara is my absolute favourite. Beautiful coastal notes at cask strength (even though it doesn't feel like 58%).

Great value for money and a really nice easy-drinking malt from Islay which is more smoke than peat.
As the name suggests there is a real maritime feel to this dram with a sweet and sea salt taste accompanied by bonfire smoke and some vanilla.

This reminds me of the Ardbeg very young iirc
This reminds me of the Ardbeg very young, and the 'almost there' of which i had about 10 bottles when they were actually sold in sainsbury's many years ago. also reminds me of what i used to love about the ardbeg 10, before it somehow changed for the worse... did it change? had a couple of very disappointing bottles a few yrs back and havent bought any since. Anyway, im not sure if the mara is a great whisky or even a good one, im no expert, but for me its perfection. I love it. had 3 bottles so far and will be buying more.

Amazing clean of point Islay Whisky no heavy cask influence
This whisky is awesome I apsolutly love it I've drunk at least 6 bottles and have more in the stash
It's really clean peat zesty and with water which should be mandatory with Islay Whisky this is true to form brings out the peat and some medicinal and seawater clean smoke,
But water Really wakes it up,
This is my no1 daily dram.
As we get it Islay is no2
Laphroaig 10 cask strength no3
This is clean Islay Whisky with minimal cask interference,
If only Laphroaig would start doing refill or 3x refill and get Away from the vanilla,
This is great stuff.

Strong and week in one body
I love the first sip - very heavy start, a lot of smoke, a bit of salt, no sweetness at all. The finish is quite weak and the flavours do not last long. But it is not unpleasant finish with a lot of warmth, though.
