Lot 40 Rye Whisky Bottling Note

Lot 40 Rye is a legendary Canadian rye whisky that is produced in a single copper pot still. At some point during the 2000s, Lot 40 Rye was discontinued, which caused quite a stir among whisky enthusiasts who considered it to be one of the best Canadian whiskies out there. Luckily, this delicious drop has been relaunched - so fill your boots!

Jack Daniel's Rye

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Earthy rye kicks in right away, backed up by caramel, fig and flamed orange peel.

Palate: Softly floral as it opens, leading into cardamom pod and peppery coriander. Crunchy brown sugar and fresh vanilla pod sweetness.

Finish: Classic rye spiciness lingers.

Lot 40 Rye Whisky Reviews

This is rye?

So different from what I think of as rye (American, particularly MGP)! Such caramel, toffee... if I had known sooner, it would have been a regular purchase for years. Now, to get my hands on that cask strength version...

Such astonishing value...

Well worth a try. High end Canadian whisky is laughably underpriced and those of us who’ve tried Lot 40 knows it represents typically good value.

Really fantastic whisky, peppery, oaky, cinnamon, honey. Lovely.

Very solid for the price. This is dirt cheap and can easily compete with some whiskeys that sell for twice the price.

Recommended by a whiskey collecting friend. Beautiful dark gold almost amber color. Very soft on the nose but with nice honey, vanilla and cinnamon aromas. Palate is also reminiscent of honey and vanilla but with a nice pity accent, something not all that common in ryes. The finish has that cinamon spiciness typical of rye whiskeys.

Tough job...

A decent enough budget rye that you can both mix with and drink neat. Sold? Me neither. There's great, good and bad in this bottle. Ultimately something about it doesn't sit quite right for me. Balance, maybe? It tips and swings by the sip. Not in an enjoyably complex way, more in a frustrating, unbalanced, inconsistent way. It's made me further appreciate what a difficult task it must be to make consistently delicious tasting whisky, barrel by barrel, batch to batch, and it all has to taste exactly the same. Can you imagine? And they say airline controllers have a tough job...

Tastes very unnatural to me, like it's had flavouring added to it which the alcohol sits underneath. No coherence at all. To date it's the only whisk(e)y I've tried that I don't even like mixed with coke (and I only ever mix ones I don't like with coke to make them seem ok) You're far better off spending your money on something like Bulleit Rye at this price range. You'll never convince me this isn't unnaturally flavoured, it's disgusting.

Not one for me

Bought this hoping I could save a few quid on the Rye for my Manhattans but it's a bit harsh so will go back to spending twice the money for a much nicer drink

5 star rye. Very refreshing and mouthwatering.

My first Canadian rye, but not the first of rye. A forest distilled, fresh spicy wood all around. There is some sweetness on the nose and at the arrival, but it is quickly taken over by endless evergreen forest sap, spice. I immediately think of mountains and forests sipping on it.
Not a single "bourbon" note in it, maybe apart of vanilla pod note in the empty glass.
I hope it represents the Canadian rye style, amazing stuff.

stonking whiskey

great to see it back.. as good as ever, and may just be a bit better.. plenty vanilla, and a pepper finish... honey and vanilla inbetween.
One of the best ryes around still and certainly the best value.
