    Single Malt

    Lochlea 6 Year Old

To mark Burns Night 2025, Lochlea Distillery launched its oldest whisky to date: Lochlea 6 Year Old. The single malt was produced at the Ayrshire distillery, which describes itself as "field-to-cask", from whisky filled into a trio of bourbon barrels and three oloroso sherry casks*. The six casks were then selected by master blender Jill Boyd (in what is her first big release after succeeding the legendary John Campbell) and distillery manager Darren McCormick. Lochlea 6 Year Old was bottled at 50% ABV without chill-filtration or any added colouring.

Burns actually worked on and lived at Lochlea Farm between 1777 and 1784, so the Lowland distillery has made a habit of honouring his legacy with an annual release, from its first whisky to its first age statement, a 5-year-old whisky released in 2024.

The bourbon casks were #132, #135, and #138, while the sherry casks were #250, #251, and #252. If anyone is making notes.

    Fantastic

Great Whisky, very earthy, nice balance, and a little gem of a whisky.
