    Loch Lomond Grainstorm

A single grain from the very adaptable Loch Lomond distillery, known for producing a variety of different whiskies, from single malts to single grains to blends. Although this is produced entirely from malted barley, it's distilled in a column still, meaning it's classified as a single grain (had it been distilled in a pot still, it would be classified as a single malt)! A very light whisky here, perfect as an aperitif.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Plenty of sweet, fruity grain character here. Citrus peels, icing sugar, a little bit of grassiness.

    Palate

Pineapple starts to develop on the palate, with a touch or two of oak spice keeping it from becoming overly sweet.

    Finish

    Continued fruity freshness.

Buy it, breathe it, drink it

Addendum: after breathing well for four days, this has softened and enriched considerably. This is genuinely good stuff. A steal for the price

It has its place in the market...and your cabinet.

(clear bottle, 46%) I have bought the NAS single grain and the 12 year old single malt and I have to say, the single grain seems to be more "honest". I haven't bought the 12 yo malt again, but I have the single grain. Let's be honest, this is an affordable whisky, most proably bought from curiosity or for its price-point as much as anything else...at least the first time. It does have a...liveliness about it which I feel more betrays its age rather more than the still-type. But there is a warmth and depth behind the slightly harsh opening. It is real whisky. And it is honestly priced. As a base for a blend, it works well. Tonight I added about 25% Scapa Glansa to the LLSG and it softened and enriched it far more than I woud have thought, bringing out the flavour of the Loch Lomond more than diluting the Scapa. I feel this is a wonderfully educational dram and it deserves to succeed.

    Love it.

Thoroughly enjoy this particular Grain whisky, and will continue to do so.

    Good stuff

I don't understand the negative reviews. This is robust and flavourfull, yet soft. The reason this is categorised as single grain despite being 100% malted barely is because they use a column still instead of a pot still. I'll grant you this is young and affordable, but it has more than enough to justify itself. I think a lot of inexperienced whisky drinkers are ignorant of the full gamut of this spirit. I am actually surprised at how drinkable this is. ?

    Too hot!

Bought this as a gift for my Dad. I always buy him a different whisky. He asked where I got this from and said it was so fiery that he had to water it down. Is it supposed to have this much heat? My brother hated it and don’t think Dad is very keen either and both are whisky drinkers!
