    Inchmurrin 12 Year Old

Inchmurrin 12 year old from Loch Lomond distillery, rebranded in 2015 as part of the Inchmurrin 'Islands Collection'. Which is rather apt, as Inchmurrin is the largest freshwater island in the British Isles, and it sits in Loch Lomond! Coincidence? We think not. Anyway, this wonderfully creamy single malt was produced on Loch Lomond's unique straight-neck stills and aged in three types of American oak cask to showcase the fruity, sweet elements of the distillery's signature style.

    One of a kind

Great value for the money, mind in Sweden I'm paying about 10 pounds less for some reason, so yay for me... Anyway the nose is malty with sweet vanilla and ripe oranges, it's oily and oaky (I get the furniture polish reference). A touch of buttery toffee and pear. The palate is smooth, it has a sort of and oily sweetness, it's spicy and malty with a touch of fudge. (I wonder if their cut is close to the feints). It has personality, a great whisky that might not suit everyones palate.

    Well worth the money

Loch Lomond are on the right track with this one - natural color and no chill filtered, bottled at 46%. If you like highland whiskies, this is a go0d one for sure. Nose: Sweet, ripe fruits, grapes, hints of apricot, floral overtones Taste: fruity sweetness mixed with bourbon sourness. Oily, but not too much. Nice transitions. Oak. Finish: Spicy, bitter oak. Mouthwatering. Pleasant floral overtones, fresh grass. Relatively long finish. I have found that 3 drops of water is the sweet spot to "open up" this whisky while maintaining all its character. It really benefits from sitting a couple of minutes in the glass before drinking.

    Love

As Ralfy said, there is something quite eccentric about this whisky and either you love it or hate it. I'm on the love side. There is something distinctive in its fruitiness that shines all the way through nose, palate and finish. The finish might slightly remind of some kind of old-school rough liquor which is then quickly smoothed out by that distinctive fruitiness. Even after the glass has dried by the next morning, those distinctive notes are still there and you really don't want to wash your glass :) A characterful malt that might have been a lucky result of experimenting. I'm certainly lucky to have stumbled on it and highly recommend to anyone who enjoys something off the beaten track every now and then. If I was to compare it to some other malt, then it slightly reminds of Glen Garioch 12. But still retains its own peculiarity.

    Reasonable value for money

Legs - thick and slow running. Oily and waxy. Non chill filtered. I suspect colour added. Nose - sweet, spicy and background smoke. Cereal, creamy, malty, apples. Palate - sweet, salty, oily, full bodied, waxy, Cereal malty, caramel. Finish - medium length, spicy, caramel,
