Single Malt
Murray McDavid
Scotland
The Cask Craft series from independent bottler Murray McDavid explores the influence of different cask finishes, and how they can enhance the profile of a whisky. This peated Croftengea single malt from the Loch Lomond distillery was treated to a double finish, spending time in both Port and Madeira casks, imparting sweet notes of toasted nuts and tropical fruits to the hearty smoke at its core.
Charred oak and vibrant peat, with grilled pineapples, stewed red fruits, and smoked hickory.
Nut brittle and more grilled tropical fruit support sweet barbecue smoke, while creamy barley and honeyed stone fruits nestle beneath.
Aromatic smoke lingers, with toasted spice, and chocolate nuts in the distance.

Bought a bottle in Glasgow to take to a pal’s house in Ayr. Over the next 2 nights we tasted 12 single malts and this was the clear winner. Packed with smoke and yet fruity it is extraordinary and surpasses the expectations that the basic bottle and label set. Easily the best dram of my year.
