Murray McDavid
Scotland
Single Malt

What happens if you take lovely Linkwood whisky and finish it in Madeira barrique casks? Well, you get something just like this tasty treat from Murray McDavid, bottled up for its Art of Maturation series at 44.5% ABV.
Raspberry, toasted almond, vanilla ice cream, and a hint of mint.
It's a beautifully honeyed palate with syrupy fruits, peanut brittle, and a touch of clove.
Unctuous and long.

I ordered five of the Murray McDavid ‘Cask Craft’ bottlings, and while I enjoyed the others this stood out. It’s decidedly fruity. It has a freshness that compliments the fruitiness nicely. It reminds you of juicy mango, with the dryness evoking the mango’s slightly metallic edge. Or possibly candied pineapple: not fresh, it’s too sweet for that. The label mentions honied cereal, and you can see what they mean, and the milk chocolate they mention comes through on the finish. Hugely enjoyable.
I was very pleasantly surprised with this single malt. The Maderia is present, both on the nose and palate, and the finish is long and smooth. Overall an exceptional, easy drinking single malt that certainly won't disappoint. I'll look forward to trying the entire range.
