Laphroaig Four Oak 1L Bottling Note

First released for the Travel Retail market, Laphroaig Four Oak features a marriage of whisky matured in a quartet of casks, namely ex-bourbon barrels, quarter casks, virgin American oak barrels and European oak hogsheads. Somewhat following on the theme from their popular Triple Wood expression...

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Roasted coffee beans, almond pastries, sawdust and medicinal peat.

Palate: An intense waft of smoke as it opens, with earthy vanilla pod and subtle cookie dough following it up.

Finish: Drying, quite spicy and long.

Laphroaig Four Oak 1L Reviews

Not worth the money

Taste ok. It's a young whisky. I will not buy it again

This is an unbelievable scotch that is my equal first favourite of all time. Medicinal peat?! Perhaps 3 day old tinea. Load of crap - sawdust. Has great depth and lingering flavours. Truly remarkable

Very good but not the best Laphroaig

Good taste. No water needed. I love QC. This was a bit less than what I hoped for but still great taste

A very fine malt whisky indeed !

Very enjoyable and distinctive smokey & complex oaky flavor! Not overpowering strength like lesser malts. I enjoy this more than a 20 year old Glenlivet.

I very much enjoyed the rich flavor. Was given to me for a gift and now I am looking to purchase again.

Really disapointed ! Is there some whisky in there ? Really ? Drinking water with a drop of caol ila is stronger...

Severely disappointing nothing like a Laphroaig, No iodine intensity no length to flavour

Doesn't even taste like Whiskey. It tasted like water with some smoke. Too diluted, too soft. Embarrassing. I feel ripped off. It actually made me decide to never buy a Laphroaig again. Very bad move by Laphroaig to sell this absolute nonsense to it's customers. What a shame.

Too watered down and not typical of Laphroaig

Totally watered down. Not a good ambassador of typical Laphroaig quality.

A little smoother Laphroaig

As someone who absolutely loves Laphroaig 10yo and QC, I was very excited when my dad gave me a bottle of Four Oak as a present. The typical Laphroaig smoke and seaweed are on the nose and instantly recognizable, but much lighter than what I expected. Much, much smoother to drink than 10yo or QC, with notes of vanilla adding to the roundness of the taste. I absolutely understand how some people might not enjoy Four Oak as much, considering it lacks some of the typical Laphroaig "edge". I personally fully enjoy it as much as their other products.

Brilliant Whisky.

I'm a devout Laphroaig man and tried this yesterday after receiving it as a gift - I must say I really enjoyed drinking it!
I prefer the Islay flavour to other regions but miss the wood notes you get from Highland varieties so to have a whisky that marries the two as well as this does is a winner as far as I am concerned!

Lovely drop 👍

Well guys, give it a chance 😏 It actually nice sipping drop with no water needed, lovely spicynes and still you will have your dose of peat, citrus and vanilla honey comb. Quite gentle long after taste, not aggressive at all. Not typical Laphroaig but still very much enjoyable 🥃

Blurgh, I've tried most of the Laphroaig's but this wasn't for me!

Nah not my type of Laphroaig, it's quite spicy though but lack's the typical laphroaig flavors.

Easy daily Peaty Drink

In all honesty, I've seen this whisky getting allot of bad reviews around my community but for me personally, I VERY WELL enjoy it! If your into Peaty then this is an exceptional easy drinker. Fine, it's a NAS but still! it's allot more premium then some of the other single malts I've tried and in fact paid allot more for. Think of this one as a Peaty Glenlivet 12 ... Hah...!

Different and interesting, more complex of the Laphroaig expressions.

Almost certainly chill filtered, but for once no caramel added by the looks of it.
Coatline is thin, legs slow to run, but quite quick when they do.
Nose - smoke, ash, smokey bacon, iodine, coconut, vanilla, piney aromatic. After half an hour or more in the air, the smokiness fades and is replaced by aromatic rose aroma, ethyl laureate, suggesting the turbo maturation has left this.
Palate - salty, smokey bacon, perfumed, carbolic
Finish - medium length, certainly not the longevity of the ten year old, smoke fades, carbolic after a few minutes. Guaiacol finish of roasted coffee.

Smooth Laphroaig

Smooth whisky.Worth of every penny. Different but still something that you will recognise it as Laphroaig.

Good but not the typical Laphroaig!

Quite interesting expression...
Not the typical Laphroaig but still recommended to try and enjoy.
Creamy and sweet with long spicy finish and of course... lots of smoky taste here!

Interesting but not sensational

Thick oily coatline with slow running legs taking time to develop reflecting the wood oils and the vaporised peat oil in the husk.
Nose - Immediate smell of coffee, with caramels, vanilla, a little resinous and sappy perhaps. Peat is not strong, cresolic presence much reduced from 10 year old Laphroaig. I suspect this may be chill filtered with caramel colourant added. Fairly strong maltose presence.
Palate - briney, oily, hot spicey, not as sweet nor peaty as he nose would suggest.
Finish - medium length and a bit tannic from European hoggies and new wood.

I was a bit disappointed with this one

I was a bit disappointed with this one. It tastes like a watered down triple wood. Its like they tried to make a whiskey that is less of a shock to the tastebuds (i.e for those not used to drinking laphroaig) and is more generically appealing to non-laphroaig drinkers. If you are a laphroaig fan stick with the triple wood, 10yr and quarter cask. It might be interesting to someone looking to get into the peaty islay whiskeys or a non whiskey drinker

Sweet & Woody

You can really taste the wood coming through in this one. Very sweet. Good addition to the Laphroaig family.
