Laphroaig Cairdeas 2017 Bottling Note

Laphroaig's 2017 edition of their Cairdeas (say car-chase) was allowed to mature entirely in American oak quarter casks - much smaller than your tun-of-the-mill hogshead. It has also been bottled at 57.2% ABV. Packed to the brim with your favourite Laphroaig intensity.

This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!

Worse Laphroaig I’ve had
I am so disappointed with this laphroaig. Worse I’ve ever had. Not a patch on 2018s Fino or their 10 year cask strength release. This is so one dimensional with very little character. Avoid!

Good, very good!
Of the eighteen members of the Gilmer Scotch Whisky Society, in our 7th year of whisky evaluations, less that half really enjoy the heavy peatiness of Laphroaig. Those of us that do, find this expression rates very high on our scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest) and those that don't still rate it no less that an "8." As promised, the intensity of the first nose, followed by the first drop on the tongue, reveals the complex Islay distilling properties of iodine, sea weed or kelp and the peat that fired the hops. It was "smoky hot" on the palate with the American Oak revealing itself after the spicy hot subsides, and the finish lingers.
On that 1 to 10 scale, members awarded scores of three 10's (a rairity) seven 9's and five 8's.
Well done!
