Released during Fèis Ìle 2015 and marking the distillery's 200th anniversary, for this special edition of Laphroaig Cairdeas Master Distiller John Campbell used 100% floor malted barley (from the distillery's own small malting floor) and used only the two smaller, older stills during distillation before maturing the whisky in bourbon casks.
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed info and/or photos just get in touch!
I bought a few bottles of Laphroaig at the 2015 festival and this was one of them. I am considering selling as the price is looking quite favourable. However after reading these comments I may just crack it open at Christmas now.
I managed to get a case of this when released. As I've sampled well over 350 different Single Malts, I can say that this bottle is in my top 2 of all time faves, with a Glendronach Single Barrel sharing the plateau. The 200th Anniversary Cairdeas is everything you could ever want in an Islay Malt. Peat, Barbecue, Bacon Fat, Brine, Herbal, Floral, Oily. This price is not too high, and I say this....If you offered me triple for the one I have left, I would offer you some salt to pound!
I bought a bottle for $60 and have kept it stored since then, $267? I'll gladly sell mine for $200!?
Love this distilleries whisky. The Cairdeas 15 return was most welcome. I'm a huge fan and am still enjoying the few drams left from the festival of 2017
I ordered a bottle of the 2016 from my local liquor store, and they delivered the 2015 instead. I tried it. I should first say that I've been drinking Laphroaig since 1972, when I was finally old enough to appreciate a single malt scotch. So, as I said, I tasted it. I was initially appalled. Then it began to change in my mouth, and in the glass. The aroma took on the distinct character of caramel and a sweetness I can't describe, while the flavor became a robust floral explosion with the least amount of peat that I've even tasted in a Laphroaig. I'm sure glad that i got the wrong bottling. The very next day I bought another bottle, which, as it turned out, was the last one left in my entire State.
