Bourbon

This single malt from Laphroaig started off its maturation in 2005 in the comfort of a splendid old refill barrel. 16 years is a long time to stay in one place though, and we all know what the upkeep can be like in those drafty older properties. Despite the charm of its first home, it was time to move on, and the whisky converted to bourbon barrel life to finish its maturation. Older and wiser, the single malt now dwells in a community of 341 bottles as part of our exclusive Master of Malt collection, ready to part ways and settle down somewhere nice... like your whisky cabinet. As ever, the colour is all-natural, and no chill filtration has gone on here.

Sweet notes of shortbread and preserved plums are joined by mellow oak, oily malt, and a touch of waxy candle smoke. Peat develops in time, bringing bonfire embers and barbecued meat.
Classic layers of robust oak and peat smoke rest in splendid balance, with buttered sourdough and cooked apples joined by salted nuts and honeyed fruit.
Some jammy red fruits appear among the smoke, with sweet maple pastries, treacle toffee, earthy charcoal, black peppercorns, and tobacco.

For me this is exactly what I want and expect from a Laphroaig, the super smoked peat and subtle bitter fruit notes are amazing!
