Smoke and sherry here from Laphroaig! The legendary distillery on the south coast of Islay has gone and released a fab 10 year old single malt Scotch whisky which has been finished in Oloroso sherry casks for over 12 months, and bottled up at 48% ABV. Alongside the familiar, intensely peaty elements of Laphroaig's classic 10 Year Old expression, you'll also find helpings of dark chocolate and maple syrup notes in this one's flavour profile. Yum!
Smoked meats, maple syrup, BBQ lemon, charred oak, a smidge of coffee.
More roasted cedar and peat smoke, with a hint of iodine tucked away. Dark chocolate, honey, and vanilla pod.
A balanced finish of sherried sweetness and smouldering peat.
Bought this around Easter time and it has been a joy every time I've had a dram. I've found letting it sit in the glass for a while brings out more sweetness as well as more smoke. £56 at the time of ordering was an absolute bargain. Not a big fan of many of Laphroaigs offerings but this is great.
In its price range this is a real gem on my second bottle, could be a future classic
This one is smoother and sweeter than the 'standard' Laphroaig. While still having the trademark peaty smokiness, it is very easy on the palate and not difficult to have more than you really should!
From my personal perspective this is one of the best Lahroaig expressions . Still the signature smokey dram but exceptionally well balanced with the tones that sherry cask maturation brings
Peat, of course, but the sherry and oak combine with Laphroig’s signature ‘medicinal’ quality to produce my favourite whisky! No need for water at 48% but satisfyingly full in the mouth with salted maple syrup and vanilla.
