The latest batch of Laphroaig 10 Year Old Cask Strength demonstrates that the Islay distillery is in no danger of running out of peaty powerhouses for us to enjoy. This has all the smoky, medicinal, and sweet notes you've come to expect, and at a hearty cask strength, those flavours don't exactly hide.
Thick waves of iodine peat smoke followed by candied fruit and toffee.
Rich, earthy, and spicy heaps of clove, cardamom, and chilli. Then, salted caramel, blackcurrant, and a hint of liquorice.
Huge and drying.
Seriously drinkable! Rich, full on and totally delicious.
Just read the other review "one of the best" - I agree with every word in the other review. The only Laphroaig that's comparable is the version sold through the Highgrove Shop. Another whisky that smashed the standard 10 out of the park.
Bought at the distillery but this is a wonderful dram. A totally different beast entirely to the standard 10 @ 40%. Full of flavour, thick and oily with a teaspoon of water. Lots of smoke, toffee and fruit. Much less medicinal and ‘mucky’ than the standard 10.
Not tried Batch 014 yet Still have some I bought from Tesco when it was C 35 quid, a bit of a while back that ! VASTLY better than the ordinary chill filtered and diluted 10 year old. Put a large measure in the bottom of a bucket, and no amount of water could kill the flavour. I still preferred it 50/50 rather than the 2/3 water recommended on the label.
Holy mother of gods it’s good.
