    Laphroaig Quarter Cask

Released in 2004, this bottling was aged for around five years before being finished in a quarter cask for several months, the size of the cask is quite small, thus does not require such a long maturation. This remains a truly great achievement from Laphroaig.

Tasting Note by us with John Campbell at Laphroaig Distillery

    Nose

Oily and buttery nose, with toffee, nuttiness, hickory, bicarbonate of soda, rum and raisin ice cream and zest.

    Palate

Big rush of sweetness, in fact it’s an explosion of sweetness, with fiery chilli heat, TCP, sweet cereals and a touch of cola syrup.

    Finish

Medium-length, but becomes fruity, with custard and cigar smoke.

    Great

Great whisky- I like it more then the 10 yo

Tasty, but I prefer the 10-year

I love the Laphroaig 10-year. It was the second whisky I ever tried, and I knew at once that I would be an Islay man forever. I recently got the Quarter Cask. I like it a lot, but I still prefer my 10-year. The higher alcohol content is the problem for me. I like to add three drops of water to my 10-year. The Quarter Cask requires an actual splash of water. I wouldn't turn down either of these drinks, but I'll probably always like the 10-year best.

    A great and affordable Whisky

Peat, iodine and smoke in abundance with underlying sweetness. A very distinctive whisky that won't break the bank. More-ish!

    Sharp & Peaty

If you like the 10 year old and you want to turn up the volume to 11 then you need to try the Quarter Cask.

Still the smokiest scotch that actually tastes smokey

Absolutely my favourite. So sick of people equating peat to smoke, it just doesn't come across on the palate. This one, the smokeyness actually tastes like smoke, not some astringent bitterness that people seem to think smoke is. I've yet to find one that actually tastes smokier, and I've been looking and tasting a long time.
