Released in 2004, this bottling was aged for around five years before being finished in a quarter cask for several months, the size of the cask is quite small, thus does not require such a long maturation. This remains a truly great achievement from Laphroaig.
Oily and buttery nose, with toffee, nuttiness, hickory, bicarbonate of soda, rum and raisin ice cream and zest.
Big rush of sweetness, in fact it’s an explosion of sweetness, with fiery chilli heat, TCP, sweet cereals and a touch of cola syrup.
Medium-length, but becomes fruity, with custard and cigar smoke.
We clearly differ and this is good, thank goodness I'm with the lucky ones who find this SUBLIME!
Yes I did mean to buy the 10 but got Quarter Cask instead. Having since had the 10 I think I prefer this. The nose is roast pork, salty crackling and amazing I want to smell this all the time.
This Laphroaig Quarter Cask is a firework in a glass! I adore the fizz that I get on the palate, slipping down swiftly thereafter.
As a Friend of the distillery and having visited the place and partaken in some tasting sessions that included whisky of 30 years old, I declare this to be my personal favourite Laphroaig of all, I was lucky enough to win the right to buy one of the very first bottlings, which I drank rather than sell on the internet, highly recommend this as a very fine peated malt of reasonable value. I'm not usually a fan of this messing around with barrels malarkey, nor do I usually like young no age statement whisky, but this is the exception.
I'm still pretty new to Islay whisky, but I really like this.
